MOMBASA, Kenya, Jun 8- The Kenya Revenue Authority has once again intercepted two high-end motor vehicles at the port of Mombasa believed to have been stolen from the United Kingdom.

Commissioner, Customs and Border Control Kevin Safari said the vehicles, Range Rover Sport cars arrived at the port of Mombasa on the 11th May 2019 aboard MV. MSC Positano from Oman and had not been declared.

“On 9th May 2019, Customs officers in Mombasa received intelligence to the effect that two 20-foot containers on board a ship sailing to the Port of Mombasa was suspected to be stolen motor vehicles from the United Kingdom,” he said.

He further added that the imported documents exposed that the two-20-foot containers were carrying top of the range motor vehicles.

Safari explained that the containers were scanned on May 20th, 2019 which then revealed where the images revealed the presence of two vehicles.

“A multi-agency team led by Customs officials undertook a verification exercise on 28th May 2019 confirming the containers were loaded with the high-end Vehicles,” he said.

The exporter is said to be from the United Kingdom while the consignee was mentioned to be Ugandan.

KRA is working with National Security Agencies, Interpol, United Kingdom Authorities and other international partners in investigations to break the syndicate involving the smuggling of stolen high-end vehicles from the UK.

The governments of Kenya and that of the United Kingdom recently spearheaded the re-exportation of 12 high-end vehicles which had earlier been seized by KRA after being smuggled into the Country as transit goods through the Port of Mombasa.
