NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 7 – The Orange Democratic Movement Party (ODM) has hinted at dropping Ahmed Kolosh as its preferred candidate for the forthcoming Wajir West parliamentary by-election slated for April 25.
The party’s Director of Elections Junet Mohamed has endorsed the nomination of Professor Mohammed Yussuf Elmi to vie on an ODM ticket with the fate of the incumbent Kolosh who won on an ODM ticket in the 2017 poll appearing to be sealed.
Party leader Raila Odinga, the Suna East MP and Professor Elmi are seen shaking hands on Twitter with the photos believed to have been taken at Odinga’s Capital Hills office.
The caption on Junet’s tweet reads; “The ODM party to field Prof. Mohammed Yussuf Elmi in the Wajir West by-election. We look forward to welcoming Prof. to the National Assembly of Kenya”.

Mohamed who has rose through the ranks over the years to become a close lieutenant to the former premier Odinga observed that Professor Elmi was the perfect fit for the people of Wajir West Constituency.
“I believe the professor is best suited to represent Wajir West and continue with his health and education work in the region,” he said.
According to Mohammed, Professor Elmi served as Director of Garissa Campus Kenya and Hargeisa Campus Somaliland of Mount Kenya University and Lecturer of Public Health and Epidemiology.
He furthers adds that the Professor also served as a visiting scholar of the University of Lusaka, Zambia.
Kolosh’s election was successfully challenged in the Supreme Court by his competitor Abdirahman Ibrahim Mohamed (KANU) on grounds that he was not validly elected.
The new dynamics in reference to the Wajir West mini-poll within the opposition outfit is likely to ignite fresh enmity within members in the party especially those who support Kolosh’s candidature.
Capital FM News attempts to get ODM’s Secretary General Edwin Sifuna to comment further were futile.
